House, formerly two properties (Nos 80 and 82) .Probably late C16 or early C17 origins, but much modified in C19 and late C20. Large squared block with prominent strap pointing, asbestos-cement slate roof. A small wing projecting south from No 72 (qv), and with one-storey lean-to at south end. Two storeys; east front has 9-pane sash above C20 casement. Gable to south has small light to left, and larger C20 casement at first floor, right, all over lean-to. Return to left has one small light, and C20 door into lean-to. Behind, facing south into Isle Road, is range of badly pointed rubble with asbestos-cement roof, has 3-storey 1-windowed front with C20 casements; at ground floor is original chamfered surround to opening, formerly a 3-light mullioned window, now part
blocked, with RE 1744 inscribed in the lintel; raised verges, stone stack, right, raised in brick. Part of the original larger house on the site, of which No 72 (qv) is the most significant survivor.
No 84, to left end of Isle Road elevation, is a C19 dwelling with rendered walls, slate roof and brick end stack. 2 storeys, one-windowed. Formerly single-storey and attic, raised to 2 storeys with visible change in walling.
Stone-cheeked porch with a flat slab to a C20 door and late C19 plate-glass sashes; moulded kneelers to left-hand gable. A lower service range to the left has a tall battered stack with a bread oven.
INTERIOR of No 84 not inspected but noted as having a large fireplace with timber lintel.
Subsidiary Features: stone rubble wall extends forward approx lOm from junction with No 84, which has stone slab marking front boundary. Included for historical and group value.
