Restaurant, formerly the London Hotel. c1850 (RCHME). Rendered, slate roof. A large square block which returns to New Street to the left. EXTERIOR: 4 storeys, 4 windows, all sashes; 9-pane at third floor and 12-pane to a sill band at second above two 8:12:8-pane oriel bows. Ground floor has a full-width display front under fascia and cornice, returned also to New Street. To Bond Street, in pilasters on bases, two 3-pane windows with arched heads, a pair of panelled doors with transom lights centrally and a door at each end, on 1 or 2 stone steps, as the street falls towards the right. Plinth, and high spandrel walls to the display windows. The front has a moulded cornice, with blocking-course and coped parapet. At the left-hand end the door is set-back, with corner pier, and there is an approach from New Street, then a 3-pane window as at the front, but slightly bowed. Beyond this is a C20 door in an arched opening. The plain band at second floor continues across this gable end. The rear has 2 hipped ends, and two 12-pane above two 16-pane sashes. At the first floor is a door to an escape staircase. The scale is of the mid C19, but detail remains as for the earlier part of the century. INTERIOR: not inspected.
