Description
WEYMOUTH
SY78SW CHURCH ROAD, Preston 873-1/3/468 (South side) Two monuments approx. 1.5m south of south aisle door to Church of St Andrew
GV II
2 headstones. Early C18. Portland stone. That nearest the door is to Mary, wife of John Clapcott. It is unusually thick, to a square head and chamfered back; partly buried, but the extended side visible in the gutter adjacent to the church. The inscription panel is sunk, under a scalloped arch carried on classical capitals. A worn and naive carved head. The second memorial is not legible, but is probably early to mid C18 in date. It is a thick slab, with sunk panel and shaped top to central scroll head.
