Description
WEYMOUTH
SY7083 CHURCH ROAD, Preston 873-1/9/462 (East side) 12/12/53 No.2 Manor Farmhouse
GV II
Farmhouse. Mid to late C18. Coursed rubble, thatch roof. This is a late wing to the former farmhouse, which had a C17 range, set gable to the road, at the left; this wing demolished (see RCHME). EXTERIOR: a lofty 2 storeys, symmetrical 3 windows; at the eaves are two 3-light wood casements, a small 2-light above the door, and an additional single light left of centre. Ground floor has large tripartite 2:4:2-pane sashes, to the right to a segmental head with flush voussoirs, and to the left to a wood lintel. The central panelled door is under a thatched hood on 'cottage ornee' props. To the right is a brick stack, and to the left a large external stone stack. The left gable has a C20 single casement light at each floor to the right of the stack, and the rear wall has a plain door, and an outshut with corrugated-iron roof. In the front wall there is a suggestion of an earlier opening, in the form of a straight joint, at the left end of the upper floor, and remains of jamb stones suggest that there was a larger central first-floor window than at present. There are remains of the farm outbuildings attached to the right gable end. INTERIOR: not inspected. (RCHME: Dorset, South-East: London: 1970-: 362).
