Description

WEYMOUTH SY6878NW TRINITY STREET 873-1/24/395 (West side) 14/06/74 No.12 GV II House in row. Mid to late C18, but some of rear range may be early C18. Flemish bond brickwork front, squared stone rear, asbestos-cement slate roof. PLAN: set on a slightly wedge-shaped site at the junction with Trinity Road, this property is slightly set back from No.1 Trinity Road (qv) adjoining; it has a high parapet front to a steep roof with half-hip to the left, and a narrow rear range with hipped end. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys and attic, 2 windows; at second floor 2-light casements with horizontal glazing bars, at first floor plain sashes, these all to painted brick voussoirs. Ground floor has a C20 steel casement in plat surrounds beneath splayed painted brick voussoirs with 2 keystones. To the left, on 4 stone steps, with rendered plinth carried across at the same level, a panelled door with small transom light, in a deep reveal, and with painted brick voussoirs with keystone. A slight cornice under the blocking course with coped parapet. To the right, in the set-back to the adjoining property, is a lead down-pipe with bold hopper-head and a series of fixing cleats. The left gable, rising above No.11 (qv) has a small 2-light casement, and there is a brick stack to the right party wall. The rear wing has a narrow 3-storey end wall in stone, with a single 2-light casement at first and second floors. The RCHME entry (Mon.85) says "Houses, Nos 11, 12 are of three storeys and attics and have bow windows to the first floor", but it is difficult to reconcile this with what exists; it seems most unlikely that this had a first-floor bow, but it is possible that the odd double-keyed arch at the ground floor covered a projecting element before being replaced with the steel casement. INTERIOR: not inspected. Listing NGR: SY6800378625
