Description
WEYMOUTH
SY6684 STOTTINGWAY STREET, Upwey 873-1/6/610 (South side (off)) 14/06/74 Manor Barn (Formerly Listed as: STOTTINGWAY STREET, Upwey Barn of Manor Farmhouse)
GV II
Former barn, now partly dwelling. C18. Rubble, some painted, thatch roof. A detached former barn with hipped ends and hipped porches to N and S sides; the major part, to the W, has been converted into a house, with inserted floors and partitions, but 3 bays of the original structure remain to the E. Between the 2 parts an inserted diaphragm wall rises above the thatch to a rendered coping. The N side has a wide pair of plank doors with barred openings full width at the top, to a wood lintel, to the left. The former porch has a full-height timber screen with narrow lights and spandrel panels, with 2 C20 casements and a door to the right, with a rendered raking buttress and a further buttress at the corner. The W end has two C20 lights at each level, and the back (S) has 2 lights and a door, plus plank doors and plank upper panel to the porch. To the right the roof is swept down, and there is an added lean-to. INTERIOR: in 3 bays with collar roof on 2 purlins, on an earth floor. A vent in the gable end. A full-height concrete block wall separates this part from the house conversion; the dwelling part retains nothing of the barn characteristics. This remained a barn at the time of the former listing; the conversion has entailed minimal external modification, and the overall form remains unchanged.
