Description

WEYMOUTH SY6778SW WYKE ROAD 873-1/26/415 (North side) 12/12/53 Nos.12 AND 14 Belfield Terrace (Formerly Listed as: WYKE ROAD Nos.12 AND 14) GV II Semi-detached pair in row of houses. Early C19. Rendered, but rubble rear wall with brick dressings, hipped slate roof. PLAN: double-depth with party-wall fireplaces and stair hall to outer walls; each has a deep wing, and drops to a full 4 storeys at the rear. No.14, in process of reconstruction at the time of survey, with an added wing. EXTERIOR: 3 storeys, and basement, each 2 windows; 12-pane sashes at eaves above 15-pane to a full-width balcony in cast-iron on scroll brackets to tent hood on trellis standards and oval balustrade panels. Ground floor has 16-pane sashes in channelled rustication, and a C20 three-light to a basement area with cast-iron railing to No.12; No.14 retains the original 2-light casement. Central stack. The 6-panel fielded outer doors are in arched openings with radial fanlights. Rear wings have an 8:12:8-pane bowed oriel below 12-pane sash, and the main wall has 6 above 12-pane sashes. INTERIOR: flat reeded cornices, and some early window shutters. Part of a group of 3 pairs of semi-detached houses (No.4 and 8 & 10 (qqv). No.12 suffered storm damage in the late 1980s, and the balcony has been rebuilt in careful matching detail. (RCHME: Dorset, South-East: London: 1970-: 346). Listing NGR: SY6729178404
