Description

WEYMOUTH SY6778NE ST ALBAN STREET 873-1/23/273 (North side) 18/06/70 No.17B (Formerly Listed as: ST ALBAN'S STREET (North side) No.17) GV II Small house in row, with shop. Late C18 or early C19. Painted brickwork, asbestos-cement slate mansard roof. 2 storeys, attic and basement, 1 window; a flat-roofed C20 dormer above bow oriel with 8:12:8-pane sash, to dentil cornice carried across full width of front. The former list refers to a 'modern window' at first floor, so this may be a good C20 replica, Ground floor has a C19 shallow bow 3-pane oriel display front, with, to the left, a part-glazed door under a 3-pane transom light, all with a frieze and dentil cornice. A grille to the basement. Above the cornice to the first floor is a shallow frieze, with a further moulded eaves cornice. A stack to the right gable. INTERIOR: not inspected. This was probably built with the adjoining No.17A to the left, which returns as No.29 Maiden Street (qv). (RCHME: Dorset, South-East: London: 1970-: 350). Listing NGR: SY6799778896
