SY6677NW PORTLAND ROAD, Wyke Regis 873-1/29/643 (West side) Bayly and Strode monuments approx 5m N of north aisle of Church of All Saints

2 headstones. Portland stone; (i) To Elizabeth, wife of Nicholas Bayly, d.1724-25. A thick stone with scrolled top and haunches, and a plane surface with incised margin. The inscription remains unusually clear; death occurred on 1 March, and the date is given as 1724-5; (ii) approx 3m E of the preceding, to John Strode, late C17 or early C18. A small stone, partly sunk, with a broad Ionic scrolled head, and a sunk panel to ovolo-mould surround, and a raised open book with inscription.
