Description
HIGH WEST STREET 1. 5l91 (North Side) No 50 (Wadham House). Railings to No 50. SY 6990 7/72 8.5.50. II* GV 2. 3 storeys 3 window stucco front, higher than the above and set back slightly. Basement. 2 doorways of equal importance suggest it may have been a pair. Now converted to flats. Early C19. Ground floor is rusticated and has central 3-light sash with segmental head. Flanking this are 2 fine doorways in round-headed rusticated reveals. Fanlights, side-lights, moulded transoms and frames. 6 panelled doors. lst floor has 3 tall sash windows, the centre 1 having architrave and entablature on console brackets. Continuous balcony supported on brackets with good iron balustrade. String at level of 2nd floor cills, moulded cornice and parapet above. Railings to area and approach steps. Urn finial. Nos 48 to 65A (consec)including the Shire Hall, Holy Trinity Church, the Museum, St. Peter's Church and monument to William Barnes in churchyard immediately south of West Tower form a group.
