SY 6399 SYDLING ST N1CH0LAS HIGH STREET, (west side)
12/184 No. 11 and attached 26.1.56 Smithy (formerly listed as cottage 10 yds of N of East GV II House Cottage)
Former B1acksmith's Cottage and attached smithy. Mid C18, with C19 (re)building of smithy. Cottage has knapped flint and chalk-block walls, with mainly chalk-block quoins. Thatch roof with gable ends. Brick stacks at gable-ends, C19. Two storeys. Two windows, mainly 2-light wood casements with horizontal blazing-bars, 3-light at left ground. Blocked window over doorway. Segmental brick arches to windows. Front door at centre, with flush- and fielded-panel door, C19. Iron trelliswork porch with iron letters in roundels, ROGER J over top and BLACK, SMITH to vertical stanchions. Smithy is attached at south end, rubble-stone walls and brick quoins, brick dressings. Slate roof with gable-end at left hand. Two fixed windows with segmental brick arches over. Plank stable-type door at left hand. Interior: forge and sziith's tools inside. Penthouse (shoeing-area), rubble-stone range at rear, with slate roof, is included.
