Description

CASTLETON ST 61 NW BRADFORD ROAD 5/22 Barn and attached Stable-Block at Bedmill Farm. - II Barn and attached Stables at right-angles. Dated 1819. Internally coursed rubble-stone walls. Plain clay-tile roofs, with half-hips. East elevation has two large square porches, with two-leaf doors and hipped clay-tile roofs. West elevation has opposed 2-leaf doors and two pitch doors (plank). Roof construction, 10 bays, with unusual C19 construction with collars, king-posts strutted long bracing-members from wall-plate to base of king-post. Two sets of through-purlins. Base of king-post area, the members are bolted together, not jointed. Return range to north-west, has a single-stable-door and two-leaf plank coach house doors, and tack-room door. This range continues through to north-east of barn, where it is a mid C19 addition. Dressed stone walls. Fixed windows with cambered stone arches over. Stable-doors. (Cf.
