MELBURY OSMOND MELBURY OSMOND ST 5707 VILLAGE Manor Farm 8/92 Cottage 11.11.66 II GV Detached former farmhouse, now private dwelling. Early C16, with raised eaves, refenestrated and consolidated C20. Rubble-stone walls. Thatch roof with gable-ends. C20 white brick stacks at gable ends. 1 1/2 storeys. 4 windows, (5 to ground floor). Wood mullions, painted, of 2, 3 and 4 lights. Iron casements and lead lights. Mainly wood lintels. Eyebrow dormers, each a 2-light casement, sides of casement frames have projecting boards to keep thatch back. Plank door, right of centre, with wood lintel over, C20. Interior: ground floor centre room has moulded and compartmented ceiling beams, with hollow, roll and hollow mouldings throughout, C16. Plank-and-muntin partitions, C16, with renewed cill-beams. Flagstone floors. South end room has an open fireplace with stone monolith jambs and cambered, chamfered lintel, C16. Spiral staircase, in right hand side of fireplace, original position, wooden treads renewed. (Fireplace against cross-passage removed, and new staircase inserted C20.) Roof of jointed-cruck construction, with collars, much altered. (RCHM. Dorset I, p.160(8))
