Young's Endowed School
GV II
School-house, in current use as primary school. Dated 1861. Ashlar stone walls. Clay-tile roofs with scaling and cresting. Stone gable-copings and gabled stone bellcote at right hand end. Steep central gable to front wall above a slightly projecting central bay. One storey. 3 windows. 4-light straight-chamfered stone mullions, with elliptical-headed lights, centre light transomed. Separate returned labels over. Low single storey entrances to school at the gable ends, carved with respectively BOYS and GIRLS on the parapets. Doorways have chamfered jambs and elliptical heads. Labels over with head stops. Plank doors with strap hinges. Built to house the merger of the National School and Young's Endowed School. (A Sandison, Trent in Dorset, pp 100-102.)
