Description

LILLINGTON ST 61 SW LOWER LILLINGTON 2/79 Tythe Barn (formerly listed as "Barn 11.7.51 immediately west of Church and opposite Manor Farmhouse") GV II* Barn, now converted to house. c1600. Rubble stone walls with ashlar dressings, roof part stone slated, part tiled with stone eaves courses, and coped gables with gabled apex stones. C20 brick stack at rear. Originally single-storeyed; intermediate floor now inserted. On main (north front), slightly projecting gabled cart-porch has string course at eaves level, and moulded stone opening, with C20 ledged doors with fanlight. 2 slit windows survive. Left of cart entrance, a C20 oak ledged door, and 2 C20 timber mullioned windows - one on each floor. Right of cart porch a blocked doorway and blocked high level window. Building 7 bays long. Roof of jointed raised cruck construction, with curved braces and 2 tiers of wind-bracing. C20 doors and windows in rear elevation A good conversion. (RCHM Monument 2. (Dorset. Vol,I).)
