Listed Building: FRYER MAYNE MANOR (105980)

SY 7286-7386 WEST KNIGHTON FRIARMAYNE 11/88 Fryer Mayne Manor 26.1.56 II Manor house in grounds. Early C17, by John Williams, probably consisting of 3 ranges round a court yard, open to the west. East and south ranges rebuilt in eclectic C17 style by the Cockeram family in second quarter of C19 when the court yard was partly filled in. East elevation (entrance front): coursed rubble stone walls with strings over first and second floor windows, clay tile, C19 re-roofing, with stone gable copings with ogee moulded kneelers having ball finials and carved apex finials. Grouped brick stacks with moulded brick cornices left of centre on ridge, on a stone plinth. 2 storeys and attics, with a 2½ storey C17 gabled porch at centre. 3 windows, 3 light mullions, ovolo moulded, with single iron casements, C19. Porch windows are 3 light hollow chamfered stone mullions, upper window has a classical cornice over, C17. Reset medieval head corbel over the top window. The entrance has 2 chamfered orders, C17, jewelled responds, a round arch of two chamfered orders and a dropped bassed keystone. Large, nailhead ornament in position of label. Front door is plank and studded with strap hinges, C19. Inner door is wood and glazed in a 2 centred head with quatrefoils in the spandrels, C19. South elevation mid C19 rebuild. 3 gables of irregular height, two in projecting bays, moulded kneelers with ball finials and apex finials. Irregularly placed brick stacks on stone bases, grouped in twos, threes or fours. 1½ - 2½ storeys. 4 windows, irregular fenestration. 4 light and 3 light mullion and transom windows, ovolo moulded, Iron casements. There is a ground stage buttress at centre of second gabled bay and in the angle at right side of this bay. Elaborately gabled half dormer window of 2 lights, left of centre: the gable is pedimented with a semi circular keyed pediment. Below this windowa 2 leaf door to garden, glazed in upper half, C19. West elevation has an extension as gabled servants' hall: rubble walls, stone and clay tile roof 2 and 3 light mullions and C20 door. The interior is entirely C19 fittings.
