Description
1. HIGH WEST STREET 5l91 (South Side) Nos 4 and 5 SY 6990 7/240 II GV 2. Mid C19. Formerly Williams' Bank (founded in 1786 by the Williamses of Bridehead, subsequently patrons of Benjamin Ferrey); 1897 absorbed into Wiltshire and Dorset Bank. Ashlar Bath stone. 3 storeys. Very elaborate and heavy moulded stone eaves cornice with modillions. Moulded stone cornice on 2 ornamental consoles over ground floor. Rusticated quoins. Arcaded ground floor, of which 2 outer arches contain 2 6 panelled doors and semi-circular fanlights, and 2 inner arches have sashes with semi- circular heads. Soffits moulded, jambs panelled, spandrels panelled. 4 ranges of sashes to 1st and 2nd floors, all with elaborate moulded architraves, and dentilled pediments to those on 1st floor. Panelled chimneys with elaborate cornicing and acroteria.
