Description

GREENHILL 1. 1625 (North Side) Georgian House including railings (Formerly listed as Georgian House) ST 6316 1/100 28.11.50. II GV 2. 1843, built on site of the C15 New Inn, demolished about 1843. One of four 3-storey, 2 window terrace houses with stone ashlar fronts. Frontage next to Cobblers but set back. Slate gabled roof. Flat giant quoin pilasters, moulded stone eaves cornice. Moulded architraves to sash windows. 1st floor windows have stone balconies with unusual iron balustrades. Doorway has moulded architrave and cornice on console brackets. Boundary railings between Cobblers and No 4 Greenhill Court: C19. Uprights alternately straight and alternately looped at top in pairs; finials; lower uprights also with spear-headed finials. Railings to Greenhill: rails looped at top in pairs alternate with shorter rails which rise to a lower rail. Square standards at intervals. Fleur-de-lys finials. All the listed buildings on the North Side of Greenhill from Newell Cottage to Belmont: and on the South Side from Delta to premises occupied by Godden and Curtis form a group.
