Description
WINTERBORNE ST MARTIN MAIN ROAD SY 68 NW 4/123 (north side) Rylstone and attached 26.1.56 front walls, railings and gate GV II Farmhouse, refashioned to villa. Mid C18, refashioned and extended c.1840. Stone walls, rendered. Slate roof, hipped and with projecting boxed eaves. Rebuilt C20 brick stacks at left and right of centre on ridge. Two storeys 4 windows, symmetrical fenestration, 2 light casements with glazing bars, high transom, stone cills and high returned labels over. First floor has 2 light casements with glazing bars. Front door at centre with 6 recess panels and 2 top lights, fanlight, with radiating glazing bars over, C19. Porch has timber columns, with plinths, moulded bases and fluted capitals. Plain entablature over, early C19. Interior: much altered though central entrance hall with stair case survives, stick balusters and plain handrail. 6 panel doors and some panelled reveals. Attached outbuilding at west end, converted from stabling, rubble stone walls and slate roof with gable ends. 1½ storeys. Irregular fenestration and one C20 french window. Attached front garden walls, stone becoming brick sleeper walls in front of house with spearhead railings over. Two central rusticated gatepiers with pyramidal capstones. Gate between matches the railing design. (R.C.H.M. Dorset II, p.393 (5)).
