Description

NETHER COMPTON ST 5917 NETHER COMPTON VILLAGE 13/69 The Old School (formerly listed as School) 11.7.51 GV II Former Schoolmaster's House and National School, now private dwelling and studio. Dated Nether and Over Compton National School 1843, on shield over entrance. Ashlar stone walls. Slate roof with gable ends and stone gable-copings. Rendered stack at right hand gable of School- master's House, and octagonal stack at right hand end. The house: 2 storeys, 2 windows, 3-light straight-chamfered stone mullions. Iron casements with lead lights. Door at left ground, with separate label over. Plank door, C20. Former school-room, one storey with crenellated parapet, 3 windows. 3-light mullion-and-transom windows with trefoil-cusped heads and moulded jambs. The porch entrance, left of centre, has diagonal buttresses, stone gable-coping with moulded kneelers and a cross over. Doorway has a Tudor- arch in a square head, with trefoiled spandrels.
