Castleton House including gates
ST 6416 2/258 II GV 2. C17 to C19.
At the west end, adjoining no 6, is a bay of similar design to nos 1-6 Castleton Terrace. Early to mid C19. Slate roof; roughcast front; window above, vehicular entry below. Beyond this to the east, the core of the house is of C17 date. Facing Castleton Road, a lower structure of 2 storeys and attic and of roughly 2 bays with a wall and entrance gates [See later] projecting from the ground floor of this section. Early C19 doorway to west of this wall with moulded pilasters and pedimented hood on shaped brackets. To east of wall one 4-light mullioned window. To the east again, the main body of the house; higher frontage. In front, facing Castleton Road, a 2-light mullioned window and a blocked 4-light mullioned window. Garden front facing east is early C19 and has hipped slate roof. 2 storeys. 3 windows; and first floor windows paired. Stone splayed bays to ground floor. Projecting stone porch has panelled pilasters and moulded entablature. C19 ironwork gates at entrance in Castleton Terrace. Ashlar gate piers with moulded capping; short stretch of ashlar wall with moulded capping.
Castleton House forms a group with Digby Estate Nos 1, 2, 4 5 and 6 (Castleton).
