Description

ST 6601 CERNE ABBAS LONG STREET, (south side) The Red Lion 11/103 GV II Attached Public House. Early C20. Red brick walls in stretcher bond, with ornamental brick pilaster-buttresses at corners, with moulded wooden brackets above. Slate roof. Brick stacks behind ridge at left hand, and at right hand in front of ridge. 2 storeys. 3-windows, first floor have segmental heads and a Venetian window at centre. Gauged brickwork. Each has tripartite casements with close mesh of glazing-bars. Ground floor, canted bay windows left and right of entrance, left one, four, one light, with lead lights and "Old English" revival influence over the transom. Right of door, two canted bays of the same type, with continuous stretcher brickwork plinth. Front door, set in, 2-leaf, recessed panelled with 12 lights over. Continuous name-board over the canted bays for whole length, with moulded cornice. Interior: large stone fireplace, with moulded jambs and 4-centred head, reset inside, C16.
