Description

SY 6399 SYDLING ST NICHOLAS HIGH STREET , (west 26.1.56 side) 12/182 No. 5 (East House) GV II* Detached House. Mid-late C18. Red brick walls in Flemish bond, with a plastered plat-band, painted white, brick dentil cornice. Hipped clay-tile roof with stone slate eaves. Large central brick chimney stack. Double-depth and double-fronted house. East front, symmetrical. 2 storeys with basements and attics. 3 windows, twinned sashes with glazing-bars, gauged brick arches with projecting keystones, painted white, (original design). Over the doorway is a Venetian window, also with gauged brick- work and keystone, and fluted pilasters to the framing. The basement windows are of Cl7 type with stone mullions. There are 3 C20 dormers, of 3, 2, 3 lights with glazing-bar., The central front doorway, has side pilasters with bossed imposts, triglyph frieze and cornice. 6 fielded-panel door, and fanlight over with radiating glazing-bars. The north front has dummy windows, and the south is partly concealed by a later addition. (RCHM Dorset I, p234(8)) Listing NGR: SY6314399425
