CHEAP STREET 1. 1625 (North East Side) No 83 including cottage in rear range (Formerly listed as Premises occupied by E W Taylor, Chemist) ST 6316 1/64 28.11.50. II GV 2. 2-storey, 5-window painted red brick front. Early Cl8 exterior. Good modillion eaves cornice. Stone slate roof with 3 dormers, the central one having Venetian window with small gable, the others being hipped. 1st floor windows have architraves, keystones and aprons. Glazing bars are altered and mid-C19 window-box guards have been added. Ground floor windows, where remaining, are similar without aprons. On left hand is wood door case with moulded architrave and pediment on enriched console brackets. Oeil-de-boeuf with scalloped margin in tympanum. On righ hand is mid-C19 double-fronted shop with round headed lights to windows. The interior of the shop good fittings, probably also mid C19. The three arches at the back of the shop may be part of the original house. Stone rubble cottage in rear range of 2-storeys. Stone slab roof. Brick dressings. Casement windows above. Below, a modern 2-light window; a flight of steps flanked by iron handrail terminating in a scroll which leads up to a 4-flush-panelled door in frame with lintel; 2 sash windows 3 panes wide.
