Description
BRIDPORT ROAD 1. 5191 (North side) North west block of former Infantry Barracks. SY 6890 7/281 II
2. 1876-7. Architect possibly Major A C Seddon, head of War Offic design branch at this date. Rock-faced Portland. Ashlar dressings. 3 storey gatehouse connected by 1 storey wings to 2 storey end pavilions. Bands. Crenellated parapet to gate- house. Pitched slate roofs, hipped to pavilions. Gatehouse has 3 centred archway flanked by round-headed lancets: 1st floor has 4 round-arched sashes with glazing bars, centre 2 in round-headed relieving arch: 2nd floor has 3 round-arched sashes with glazing bars. Wings have 6 round-arched sashes with glazing bars each. End pavilions have 3 ranges each. All windows linked by hoodmoulds.
