8/19 The Rectory, with 5.9.60 front garden railings (formerly No 3 Hill Side)

Detached villa, one of three. 1827 by Joseph Wilson. Stone walls stuccoed, with stucco plat-band. Low pyramidal slate roof with projecting modillion eaves. 4 brick stacks; 2 at left hand eaves, 2 at right hand eaves. 2 storeys. 3 windows. Square sashes with thin glazing bars. Ground floor with tall French windows with thin glazing bars, set in shallow elliptical- headed recesses. Wooden trelliswork framing the windows, with copper canopies. Front door at centre, wood with 6 recessed panels and 2 glass lights. Semi-circular fanlight with glazing bars. Doorway with a reeded pilaster surround with plain imposts and a dropped key over. Doorframe itself with similar reeded motifs.
Interior: front rooms with rounded rear walls, and curving doors fitting the arc. Reeded door knobs. Reeded cornices with disc-in-square decoration. Back window with round head and pointed-arch glazing bars.
Iron railings and gate to street, with arrow-heads and urns at divisions, standing on a sleeper wall. "RCHM, Dorset I", p 89 (7).
